1. General Information
The module "OPEN MIND CAD Interfaces" enables the import of 3D CAD-models in several formats and
the conversion into the internal *.e3-Format.
1.1. System requirements:
- thinkdesign 2007.1 / 2008.1 or hyperCAD 2007.1 / 2008.1
- CAM Utilities 9.7
1.2. General:
The following models can be converted - depending on the acquired license - :
-CATIA V4 (file type:*.model, *.exp, up to version 4.2.4)
-CATIA V5 (file type:*.CATpart, up to version R19)
-CATIA V5 (file type:*.CATproduct, up to version R19)
-ProEngineer (file type:*.prt.*, *.asm, from version 18 up to Wildfire 4)
-Unigraphics (file type:*.prt, up to version NX 6)
-Parasolid (file type:*.x_t,...., up to version R19)
-SolidWorks (file type *.sldprt, *.sldasm; up to version 2008)
Attention: License codes of version 6.0 are not valid anymore.

2. Hints to the installation
Condition:
You need Administrator Rights to install the CAD interfaces.
This is also valid for the License server in case of installing network licenses.
Procedure:
The module "OPEN MIND CAD Interfaces" will be provided as a self extracting exe-file.
After you have downloaded the file "OM_CAD_Interfaces_V7_6.exe", please start the installation
on your system by double clicking this file.
The installation will check, whether there is a supported hyperCAD- or thinkdesign-Version already
on the system and will be cancelled, if this is not the case.
The "OPEN MIND CAD Interfaces" will be provided - depending on the language of the installed
CAD program - in the following languages: "German", "English", "French" and "Italian".
Select the corresponding conversion module out of the list, for which you acquired a license.
Please be aware, that the installation will continue only, if at least one module from the list is selected.
Now, the installation copies all the necessary files into the corresponding hyperCAD directory
of your system.

3. Registering the licence file via InfoCenter
Execute the program InfoCenter from within the program group
"OPEN MIND - CAM Utilities V9.7".
· choose Load in the list view (CAM licenses),
· choose the *.dat format and confirm with OK,
· finish the following dialogue with Yes, to register your license
Please keep in mind that you have to complete the register card and
sent it to OPEN MIND to
get the needed licence file.
The register card has to contain the number of your dongle.
Please keep in mind that after the installation you have to send an email to OPEN MIND
with your dongle number to request your license file.
Your CAD interfaces should be ready to run now.
Tip for network license users:
An installed version of license server 1.7, which is provided with the new version of CAD interfaces
is a condition for using network licenses.
To install the license server, double click on the file TTF_LicenseServer_V1.7_Update.exe
and follow the instructions of the program.
IMPORTANT:
After the installation, the CAD-Reader license server has to be installed new via InfoCenter (Registry > License Server > CAD Reader > Server)

5. Reading of CAD-models
To use the OPEN MIND CAD Interfaces, please activate the toolbars at first. Choose "Customize > Toolbars"
(right-mouse click in the toolbar) and activate the desired toolbars.
There will be a toolbar consisting of two icons for each selected format
in the thinkdesign /hyperCAD -menu bar, which allows you to control the OPEN MIND CAD Interfaces.

icon opens the window for controlling
the conversion.
With the icon 
you can set the
workplane on one of the axis systems, that are read out during conversion.
5.1 Conversion options
First specify the conversion-parameters as follows:
Entity Filter
Using these options, you select the entity types to be converted.
When the check-box is activated, all entity types of this category will be converted.
Please be aware, in order to get the best result, all categories will be selected by default
(exception: Datum
planes for ProEngineer).
You can convert Points, Curves, Surfaces,
Solids, Axis systems, Texts and Datum planes.
Note:
The entity filter Datum planes is only available for ProEngineer CAD interface
The entity filter Axis systems is only available for ProEngineer and CATIA V4 CAD interface.
The entity filter Texts is not available for Parasolid CAD interface.
Solid Conversion Mode
Break down solids into surfaces
Solids are separated into single surfaces. The original topology of the Solid is lost.
Collect solid surfaces into layers
All surfaces will be collected into defined layers (on which shouldn't be other entities).
Later, they can be assembled into a solid with a CAD command. Thereby the original layer will be overwrite.
Collect solid surfaces into components
thinkdesign/hyperCAD entities (solid surfaces) were collected into components during conversion.
The name of the elements is used as identification for the generated components. The layer assignment
of the solid surfaces remains.
Create solid
All single surfaces
persist as part of the solid. The topology of the solid persists. Depending on
the settings at the entity conversion mode, a converted solid is composed of
NURBS surfaces,
cylinder surfaces and planes.
Entity Conversion Mode
Convert NOSHOW entities
With this option all covered elements are considered during the conversion and converted accordingly.
Create 3D boundaries
The output format (*.e3) contains 3D boundaries, that will be available explicitly for further work on the
CAD model (e.g. for the contour selection etc..).
Convert all surfaces in NURBS
All analytical surfaces (exception: planes) are converted into NURBS and are available for further usage.
If this option is not activated, in this Version (2.3) cylinder surfaces and planes persist as well as cones,
bullets and toroids are converted into surfaces of revolution.
Note:
The option Convert all surfaces in NURBS is not available in the CATIA V4 CAD interface.
Take over of CAM features in hyperMILL
CAM relevant Feature of a model are converted to CAM features and are taken over to
the hyperMILL feature list. This function is available for CATIA V5 and Pro/Engineer.
Extended
Automatic File Save
The thinkdesign model is automatically saved with the original model name.
NURBS Approximation
Here you define the mathematical accuracy of the NURBS-approximation
Normally the value 0.0001 is sufficient.
Start layer for surfaces
Note: this option is available only if you choose the option Collect surfaces into layers
before. With this option, you define the start layer for the surfaces that have to be converted.
All further surfaces were collected automatically on the next available layer.
Feature
Adjust features to model geometry
The CAM Features, taken over to hyperMILL, are adjusted to the model geometry.
5.2. Selection of the CAD-file
Open the window "Open"
by clicking one of the following icons: , , ,
Select the file and the file type, you want to convert. Click on the button Open, for loading the file or
Cancel for interrupting the loading process.
5.3 Converting process
The converting process creates a report (log)-file from, that has the same name like the converted cad-file
ending with "*.log (<CAD-file>.log), located in the same folder.
Note: Due to there are ambiguous layer assignments in ProE models but no possibility of mapping them
in thinkdesign layers, the layer structure of ProE models is not taken over to thinkdesign.
5.4 Set workplane
To set the workplane on
one of the axis systems that are read out during conversion, click on the icon
and select the desired axis system from the list.
Note:
to the name of the axis system: the original name is the first part of the current term.

5.6 Restrictions
Assemblies, which contain Assembly-Feature, cannot be read in correctly, because the geometry,
generated by the Assembly-Feature is not contained within the model geometry.
Such assemblies are no more read in, in the log-file the error message
'Error modified parts in the ASM: *.SLDASM' appears.
Parts/Assemblies, which contain Assembly-Feature, are no longer imported into hyperCAD.
